EPSDT

The Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) program is Medicaid's comprehensive and preventative health care program for children and young adults (from birth to age 21). If your child is covered under Medicaid, please check with your caseworker or medical provider to determine whether your child is covered under this very important program. Section 1905(r)(5) of the Social Security Act (the Act) requires that any medically necessary health care service listed at section 1905(a) of the Act be provided to an EPSDT recipient, even if the service is not available under the State's Medicaid plan to the rest of the Medicaid population.
EPSDT is designed to detect and treat health problems early through:

  • Regular medical, dental, vision and hearing screening and to check for lead poisoning
  • Immunizations (shots)
  • Education

Contact information for the Colorado Medicaid EPSDT program can be found on the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) web site. For further information about Colorado EPSDT or a listing of sites, call 303.866.6167 or contact your local Health Department.

The laws covering EPSDT are found in Volume 8, Section 8.280 of Colorado's Rules and Regulations.
