Adoption Statistics

National Adoption Information Clearinghouse (NAIC) - Adoption Statistics

AFCARS: AFCARS, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) is a system for collecting data on children in foster care and children who have been adopted under the auspices of the State child welfare agency. There are two components, the State component and the Federal component. The State is responsible for collecting case management information, and transmitting the AFCARS data to the Federal level; there the data are processed, checked for compliance and quality, and developed into reports summarizing child welfare statistics. Prior to 1994, there had not been a consistent, national data collection system on the characteristics of children in foster care, foster parents, adopted children and adoptive parents.
